Frequently asked questions

Built on one principle: less gets in the way. These are the questions we hear most.

Philosophy

What is Typerite?

Typerite is a daily writing practice built around one idea: a blank page, every day. You write a set number of words. Over time, the habit deepens. The practice is yours to shape.

What makes Typerite different?

No prompts. No templates. No AI suggestions. Just a blank page and a word count. The practice is yours — what you write, how you think, where your words take you. If you miss a day, restoration is earned through writing, not purchased.

Getting started

How do I start?

Download the app and begin writing. Your first 30 days are a practice period — no payment required. Every day you meet your word goal counts toward your consecutive days. Use this time to see if the rhythm fits your life.

What happens after 30 days?

You can continue with an annual membership ($24.99/year in the US; pricing varies by region). Your writing and consecutive days are preserved. If you're not ready, you can export your writing at any time.

The practice

How many words do I need to write each day?

500 words. Or, you can choose build-up: start at 200 words and progress over three weeks. You write for seven successful days at each level — 200, then 300, then 400, then 500. Missing a day does not reset your phase. The progression waits for you to return.

Why can't I paste text?

Every word in Typerite must be earned — typed by you, through the effort of writing. We disable pasting because the practice is in the doing, not the output.

Does my writing sync across devices?

Yes. Your entries sync across all your Apple devices signed into the same account. Write on your iPhone and continue on your iPad or Mac.

When does my writing day reset?

At midnight in your device's timezone. If you travel, the deadline adjusts with you.

Changing your practice

Can I switch between standard and build-up?

Yes. In Settings, you can change your practice type at any time — but not mid-session. Finish your current day's writing first.

Switching to build-up resets your daily target to 200 words, and your consecutive days return to zero. Build-up is a journey best begun fresh.

Switching to standard sets your target to 500 words immediately. Your consecutive days continue uninterrupted.

Your rhythm

How do I earn a free year?

Write for 365 consecutive days, and the next year is on us. You receive a free year of access as recognition of your steady practice.

This repeats. Each time you reach another 365 consecutive days, you receive another free year. The rhythm continues: 365 days, one free year. Always.

When life interrupts

What if I miss a day?

You can restore your rhythm by writing more. For each day missed (up to 3), write above your usual count for that many consecutive days:

  • Standard mode: 750 words instead of 500
  • Build-up mode: your current goal + 100 words

Complete restoration, and your consecutive days continue as if unbroken — those days count toward your 365. Miss a day during restoration, and it ends.

What if I miss more than 3 days?

If more than 3 days pass without writing, your consecutive days reset to zero. Restoration is only available for gaps of 1 to 3 days.

The first time this happens, Typerite preserves your consecutive days as a one-time grace. You can continue as if the gap never happened. This grace is available once per account.

Membership

How much does Typerite cost?

$24.99 per year in the US. Pricing varies by region. You can practice for 30 days first.

Why is there no monthly plan?

Typerite is built for a year at a time. Monthly subscriptions work for apps you might use occasionally. A writing practice asks for more. The yearly model reflects this: a single commitment, a full year to let the habit settle. At 365 consecutive days, the next year is free. The rhythm is annual by design.

How does billing work?

Apple handles your subscription. It renews automatically unless canceled 24 hours before renewal through your device Settings.

If you earn a free year at 365 days, you still need to cancel your Apple subscription manually to avoid being charged — Apple billing operates separately from Typerite. If you forget and are charged, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

What happens if I cancel?

You keep access until the end of your current paid period. After that, your existing writing remains available for export for 90 days.

After 90 days without an active membership, your entries are permanently deleted. Export your writing before this window closes.

Privacy and your writing

Can I export my writing?

Yes. Download all your entries as a ZIP file from your profile. Each day becomes one text file. Your writing is end-to-end encrypted on our servers (we cannot read it), but decrypted on your device for export. Your writing belongs to you, and you can export at any time, even after cancellation.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. You can delete your account and all data from your profile. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. Export your writing first if you want to keep it.
